Above is latest image release by the BJCC for Birmingham's new almost $200 Million Tax Dollar paid "Protective Stadium".
The problems begin because the Press Box and the VIP/Corporate Suites are down way too low and don’t leave enough room for Home Side seating. With a capacity of 45,000, if you can’t put seats on the Home Side you have to put them somewhere. At the BJCC Protective Stadium those seats are going in the corners, the end zones and on the Visitors Side (in the sun).

- There are only 31 rows of seats on the Home Side. There are 60 rows of seats on the Visitor’s Side. Fans on the Visitor’s Side will be looking into the sun and will get roasted. If this stadium is built the lopsided design will be glaringly apparent.
- There are only 2500 good seats on the Home Side. This is counting the seats between the 20 yard lines and on rows 6 through 31. (UAB has been selling 10,000 season tickets each year. Many loyal UAB season ticket holders are going to be faced with poor seating options. https://www.al.com/sports/2017/08/uab_football_hits_10000_mark_f.html )
- There is a crazy number of seats in all four corners. No one wants to sit in the corners! For a 45,000 capacity stadium, no stadium in the World has ever been designed with this many corner and end zone seats. The design shows there are upper decks of corner seats. 4.
- The sidelines are way too wide. The distance from the playing field to the first row of seats is 58’. Even for soccer this is way too wide. New stadiums are designed to get the seats close to the field.

Vestavia High School Has More Home-Side Seats Than Our Protective Stadium Design.
We’ll be building a stadium with a capacity of 45,000 and yet there will be only 2,500 desired seats on the home side! Its not worth our approximate $200 Million in tax dollars.

"Birmingham may not be ready for a pro team today, but we may be ready in 20 years. If we have the current design in place, "We will NEVER have a Professional Sports team. "

An Early image of Birmingham's New Stadium
The Home-Side seating is bizarre. The best seats will go to the elite. The moneyed UAB Boosters will occupy all the premium Home Side seating. The BJCC Board, and Corporate Fat Cats will occupy the suites. When I want to buy season tickets for my family, where are my seats going to be? Am I going to be forced to sit in the end zone, the corners, or on the Visitors Side in the sun? I’ll feel like I’m being sent to the back of the bus, and I won’t be alone. This is a stadium problem, but it is also a social justice problem.
